Vajra Voices presents music of the 14th-century master trouvére Guillaume de Machaut and a new work by Theresa Wong: To Burst, To Bloom on the Arts at St. Bede's Concert Series.
Saturday, May 5, 2018 from 10am to 4pm
Arlington Community Church, Kensington, CA
Vajra Voices presents a workshop on singing the medieval polphony of Guillaume de Machaut. The Lay of the Fountain is a beautiful poem which uses the image of a fountain as metaphor for the Holy Trinity. The fourteen verses alternate solos with 3-voice chaces (rounds) using Machaut's intricate modal compositions.
Intermediate to advanced singers will appreciate this workshop which offers: vocal exercises, pronunciation of medieval French (using IPA), and in-class participant performances and coaching. Teachers include: Karen R. Clark (Director), Amy Stuart Hunn, and Allison Zelles Lloyd. Details coming soon.
"Heartfelt elegance, with spiritual fervor."
Vajra Voices' debut recording,
O Eterne Deus: Music of Hildegard von Bingen, with
instrumentalist Shira Kammen, has been called
"the most convincing Hildegard disc yet from the USA"
(Choir & Organ Magazine).
