"Heartfelt elegance, with spiritual fervor." The San Francisco Chronicle
The women's vocal ensemble, Vajra Voices, sings medieval to modern music in a singing style inspired by Hildegard von Bingen that is "clear, sweet, and strong." Vajra Voices' debut recording O Eterne Deus: Music of Hildegard von Bingen, with instrumentalist Shira Kammen, has been called "the most convincing Hildegard disc yet from the USA" (Choir & Organ Magazine).
A season of singing rhapsodic chants in praise of the divine feminine provided inspiration for the sumptuous choreography of Garrett & Moulton's, Divining, which premiered in Oakland Ballet's production, A Capella: Our Bodies Sing. KQED wrote, "Unearthly sounds of medieval hymns were thrillingly spun by Vajra Voices."
Vajra Voices also presented A Medieval Veneration of Mary on the Full concert series, in the new Berkeley Art Museum Pacific Film Archive.
